Service · Post-16 college transport
Transport that grows with the young person.
Post-16 transport isn't just about getting to college. For young people with EHCPs, it's part of the independence pathway. Vayacare treats it that way — with independence tracking, flexible scheduling, and a named driver who understands the whole picture.

Built for the post-16 EHCP
Six capabilities designed around the specific needs of 16–25 transport.
Independence
Independence pathway tracking
We co-design a travel-independence programme with the young person and family. Milestones — solo bus stop, familiar route, unfamiliar route — are tracked in the driver app and reported to the LA quarterly.
Scheduling
College schedule flexibility
FE timetables change weekly. Our dynamic scheduling engine adjusts pickups and drop-offs without a phone call — the driver app and parent app both update overnight.
Transition
Transition planning support
We participate in Year 11 and Year 12 transition meetings to ensure transport isn't a barrier to the chosen FE college or supported internship, even if it's 40 miles away.
Work readiness
Work placement coverage
Post-16 EHCPs increasingly include supported internships and work placements. We extend transport to employer sites mid-week without a new LA authorisation — just a portal request.
PA support
Personal assistant coordination
If the young person travels with a PA, we coordinate vehicle capacity and pickup sequencing so the PA is never waiting at the wrong stop.
Flexible hours
Evening & weekend provision
For learners attending evening classes or weekend enrichment programmes, we provide out-of-hours coverage under the same contract — no additional procurement required.
How we work
Our post-16 transport pathway
01
EHC needs assessment
We work with the SEN team to understand the young person's learning goals, independence targets, and transport support needs.
02
Route scoping & vehicle selection
We match WAV, standard, or specialist vehicles to the individual — not the route. A young person working towards independent travel gets a different setup from one with complex physical needs.
03
Independence pathway agreement
For learners aged 18+ we agree a formal independence target with the family and college: e.g. “bus-ready by end of Year 2.” Progress is tracked in the portal.
04
Communication passport integration
College tutors, support workers, and our drivers all work from the same Vayacare comms passport — sensory triggers, calming strategies, preferred communication.
05
Annual review evidence
We export attendance data, on-time rates, and driver welfare notes directly into the EHCP annual review pack — reducing admin burden on the SENCO and family.
